El
Guincho is a dive done by boat, going out from our base in Garachico´s port in the
N.E direction and after navigating 10 minutes, reaching the cliff La Culatta
where we can also see the curious tunnel above ground which joins an area
called El Guincho to the town of Garachico, named by the locals El Tuñel
de los Agujeros (the tunnel of holes ), as
it has windows which allow you to see a beautiful view of our sea while you drive
down to our town.
We drop anchor near some small rock formations known as el diente (the tooth), la molar (the molar) and el colmillo (the eye tooth).
We let out the stabilising current rope in the interest of safety and begin the immersion going down the anchors rope until the seabed. Once here we go towards the coast, the seabed consists of sand and some basalt formations.
Once we arrive at the wall we find a curiously formed stone in the shape of a horses face, we use this as a reference and continue the dive going down the right side of the wall. Being a seabed with lots of rock formations we can find numerous species; parrot fish, trumpet fish, cod, bright green wrasse and seamice.
The average depth is about 20 metres and so we can amuse ourselves calmly watching the marine life around us with time to spare. On returning we leave the wall to our left going up the anchors rope.
It is a very calm and easy immersion.
