Pilot whales

This is one of the most popular excursions. You leave at 11.00a.m from Los Gigantes port in the catamaran Nashira Uno, on a magical journey to find some of the most attractive inhabitants of the marine world. The vessel has 50 ft. in length which reduces the possibility of sea sickness, allowing even the worse seafaring passengers to enjoy the trip.

The clean waters of the Atlantic Ocean, which surround Los Gigantes are internationally famous amongst marine biologists due to its environmental conditions (cleanliness, temperature, alimentation etc) are a permanent home for various cetacean species which can be seen on this excursion.

The species usually seen are the mottled, striped and common dolphins. All these play in the waves, so close to the bow that you can almost touch them, they do acrobatic jumps and you can take lots of photographs or make videos.

With not such sharp movements or less acceleration you can see”caderones”also known as Pilot Whales, who sometimes can be found after several miles resting very still on the surface of the water in groups.

Nashira Uno´s captain takes route towards the Bay of Masca, where one can swim or scuba dive with a light kit available onboard (swimming masks, flippers and snorkel tubes).

Once lunchtime arrives, you can eat onboard traditional paella with a mixed salad, cold drinks and fruit which complete the menu before returning to port.

The Nashira Uno also has two large underwater windows though which you can watch the marine life in the bay and along the bottom of the cliffs. Silver and colourful fish swim close to eat the rice thrown in by the crew.

The return trip to port gives a closer view of the cliffs, which as their name suggests have a spectacular height, in some points they reach 500 metres. Because of the flora and fauna found here, the area is protected by the Canary Government.

To finish this unforgettable excursion the captain will present you with a “sightseeing certificate” so you have a permanent memory of this marvellous trip.
